FlashGet - Free Internet download manager Posted: 06 Aug 2009 03:32 AM PDT FlashGet, from Trend Media, is a download manager software. It is used for downloading and managing files off the Internet. It can also continue your unfinished download when you need to disconnect from the network. CNET has given it a 5 star editor's rating. It is similar to GetRight, another excellent download manager for Windows. If you’re a Firefox user, check out my previous post on five download manager add-ons for Firefox. FlashGet supports more than bit torrent files, segmented downloading, and FTP recognition. It also has a Site Explorer feature that allows you to download multiple files from the same site in a Windows Explorer-style interface. Utilizing the instantly recognizable table, the Site Explorer cuts a lot of time out of navigating graphics-heavy sites, and it recognizes most file types. To start downloading files from a website, click file and select new download, enter the URL of the file you want to download click ok. If you do not know the URL of the site, you can use the search box of FlashGet, all you need is to enter the keyword of the file you want to search. After you have finished searching the file or supplying the URL of the file you want to download, click on the start button to begin downloading the file. The file will be transferred to the downloaded folder on the left side of the FlashGet window. Click on the folder to view the downloaded files. To go to the file location, select the file and click the Dir button. This will launch windows explorer pointing to the location of the file. When your connection is lost or you need to restart your computer, the current download will be saved and will continue to download when you reconnect. FlashGet supports HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, BT, MMS, MMST, RTSP and ed2k protocol. Because it supports torrent downloads and has a built in online search functionality, it could overthrow your current download manager as your new default downloader tool.
