Dear Valued Customers, Everything about the epic disaster film Aftershock seems to be in the superlatives: the most expensive film ever made in China from the country's most bankable director Feng Xiaogang has to date collected over RMB660 million at the box office to become the highest-grossing Chinese blockbuster of all time.
Employing spectacular effects, the film depicts in stunning details the destruction of the 1976 Tangshan Earthquake, which took more than 240,000 lives. What makes Aftershock a prime candidate for the best Chinese film of the year though is not the visual thrills, but the deeply touching human drama centering on a family brutally torn apart by the disaster, and the powerful performances by Zhang Jingchu, Xu Fan, Li Chen, Lu Yi, and Chen Daoming.
Aftershock is now available on DVD and Blu-ray with English subtitles and special features including making-of and deleted scenes.

| | | | SPOTLIGHT REVIEWS | | The Legend is Born - Ip Man The big question was always going to be how the film would get around the absence of Donnie Yen, and the prequel approach does at least justify having another actor in the role which he so effectively made his own. Whilst not as charismatic as the one and only Yen, To Yue Hong does a very decent job as the young Ip, not least since he bears a notable resemblance to him. A could-be overbearing tearjerker, Ocean Heaven surprises in just how straightforward and simple it is.
